Canary Islands Honors its Figures with Gold Medals and 2026 Canary Awards

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, presides this Saturday over the presentation of the Canary Islands Gold Medals and the 2026 Canary Awards at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, recognizing the careers of outstanding figures and institutions.

The institutional event, held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, distinguishes personalities and entities for their contribution to the identity and development of the archipelago. The ceremony coincides with the May 30th holiday, a key date for Canary Islands culture and industry.
Among the recipients of the Gold Medal are the fighter Juan Espino, the architect Fernando Martín Menis, the firm Ron Arehucas, and the activist Pedro Zerolo, among other social referents. The list also includes Casa de Galicia, the Nursing Colleges of the Canary Islands, costume expert María del Carmen Almenara, the Güímar Ribbon Dance, the club In Corpore Sano, and Antonio López Bonilla, founder of Colegio Cisneros Alter, posthumously.
In the Communication category, graphic humorist Padylla has been recognized. Architect Fernando Martín Menis receives the International award for his global projection, and the Fundación Canaria MAIN for its altruistic actions. The association Ámate, dedicated to supporting breast cancer patients, is also among the awardees for its solidarity work.
The business sector is also honored with the distinction for Ron Arehucas, an industry with historical roots. In the social sphere, Pedro Zerolo, a historical PSOE leader and equality activist, is recognized posthumously. Culture is represented by singer Braulio, and the economy by Fernando Berge, honorary president of Cajasiete.
