The Government of the Canary Islands is preparing a new call for the Youth Rent Bonus for 2026, increasing the budget to help young people up to 35 years old access housing.

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) has published a modification to the Strategic Subsidy Plan of the Canarian Housing Institute, increasing the credit allocated to the Youth Rent Bonus. This update will enable a new call for these subsidies to be processed during 2026.
The measure targets young people up to 35 years old who are renting or have a right of use and have limited financial means. However, the BOC publication does not signify the immediate opening of the application period, as it only modifies the budgetary planning and does not establish specific dates or conditions for the future call.
The published order specifies that the increased funding aims to ensure sufficient funds for the 2026 annual installment corresponding to the 2025 call and, additionally, to allow for a new call within the same year. The plan allocates 9,815,222.65 euros in state funding for 2026, supplemented by contributions from the Cabildo of Lanzarote (1,097,945 euros) and the Cabildo of Tenerife (950,000 euros). For 2027, another 5.3 million euros from state sources and 950,000 euros in island contributions are foreseen.
The official objective of this aid is to facilitate access to rental housing or rooms for young people with economic limitations. Grants will be awarded through non-competitive bidding, as detailed in the document from the Canarian Housing Institute. Previously, in July, an agreement was signed between the Institute and the four Chambers of Commerce of the Canary Islands to collaborate in managing the subsidies for the 2026 call.

The state program establishes aid of 250 euros per month for a maximum of 24 months, potentially reaching 6,000 euros per beneficiary.

The state program sets a maximum aid of 6,000 euros per beneficiary (250 euros per month for up to 24 months). Royal Decree 42/2022 designates young people up to 35 years old with limited income, generally linked to the IPREM, as recipients. In the previous Canary Islands call (2025), applicants needed to be between 18 and 35 years old, be a tenant or able to formalize a rental contract, and have regular income below three times the IPREM for the household. The definitive requirements for the new 2026 call will be confirmed upon its formal publication.
