Cañas & Camarones originated around the 60th anniversary of Bajamar being declared a Tourist Interest Destination and has since become a significant summer event on the La Laguna coast. Fran Hernández highlighted that the initiative successfully unites tourism, gastronomy, local commerce, and the fishing sector, generating economic activity and showcasing the area's potential.
The date change to July 11th was made to coincide with the peak shrimp season, ensuring the quality of the main product. The nine-hour program will combine gastronomy, music, and a local market featuring thirteen brands from various sectors, aiming to enhance the public's experience.
Shrimp will be the culinary star, alongside other local fishing products and seafood cuisine. Esteban Reyes emphasized the importance of shrimp to the identity of the Canary Islands' coastline and the daily work of fishermen, valuing such initiatives for bringing marine heritage closer to the public.
The market will showcase thirteen local brands, serving as a platform for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Dimple Melwani pointed out Bajamar's natural and scenic value, stressing the importance of events that enrich the visitor experience and promote a more sustainable and competitive economic model.
