The 'Despierta' project, an initiative promoting social reflection on intergenerational relationships, will be presented on May 24 at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, inviting young people, families, and professionals to a constructive dialogue.

The proposal seeks to create a space to rethink how current challenges in key areas such as education, emotional health, and the development of young talent are addressed. The idea arose from concerns about the difficulties some young people face in managing their lives and its impact on families, as well as intergenerational conflicts in the workplace.

"We are not understanding each other. We think that we adults are right and they are wrong."

According to the project's promoters, a central issue is the lack of mutual understanding. It is observed that adults often judge younger generations without comprehending their perspectives, while young people may lack the mindset needed to value effort and time in achieving success. Additionally, there is criticism of the lack of motivating work environments and an overly permissive education that, at times, has led to individuals with less resilience.
The problem is attributed to a combination of factors such as education, technology use, immediacy, and difficulty in valuing things, which can lead to fragility, demotivation, and low self-esteem. It highlights the need for both families and educators to question their methods and seek new ways of connecting and supporting, fostering values such as effort, justice, and autonomy.
In the business sphere, it is emphasized that the difficulty in connecting with young talent is not exclusive to this generation but reflects a general deficiency in people management and motivation. It is stressed that young people seek recognition, a good environment, and a sense of contributing value, aspects often not adequately nurtured in organizations. The key lies in managers acting as mentors, dedicating time, trust, and guidance.

"We are the problem but also the solution."

The 'Despierta' project calls on everyone, young and old, to reflect on their role. It mentions that young people are victims of algorithmic manipulation on social media, which affects their self-esteem and creates addiction. On the other hand, adults must analyze whether their parenting style is the most appropriate for raising autonomous and secure individuals. The initiative does not seek to offer quick solutions but to “awaken” consciousness so that each person finds their own answers and meaningful conversations are generated among parents and children, educators and students, and within the business environment.
