The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, has stated that the Canary Islands Government has met all requirements to access funds against gender-based violence, but the state transfer has not yet occurred.

The Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, stated this Tuesday in the regional Parliament that the Canary Islands Government has completed all administrative and justification procedures required to access the 2026 funds for projects against gender-based violence. She indicated that work is underway so that, once the State makes the transfer, the resources can reach the entities developing prevention, attention, and protection actions against gender violence with maximum speed.
Delgado thus rejected the criticisms of inaction made by entities working on projects for the prevention of violence against women and victim protection, who accuse the Canarian Executive of inaction that leads to the loss of resources.
The minister denied again that there are any delays attributable to the autonomous community, recalling that in the previous legislature, two years were left unjustified. She emphasized that the procedure depends on a state transfer that has not yet occurred. Meanwhile, all necessary preparatory work has been done to ensure agile, transparent, and effective management of the funds, according to a government statement.
The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Canarian Institute for Equality (ICI), continues to advance in the preparation and planning of projects to be financed with funds from the State Pact against Gender Violence corresponding to 2026, despite the fact that the economic transfer by the State has not yet materialized.
The Sectoral Conference on Equality approved the distribution of funds for this fiscal year on April 15, allocating 9.2 million euros to the Canary Islands. Although the agreement has already been published in the Official State Gazette, the resources have not yet been transferred to the autonomous community.
To avoid delays once the resources are received, the Canarian Institute for Equality has already informed the various management centers of the autonomous administration, the island councils (cabildos insulares), and specialized entities about the possibility of submitting proposals aligned with the requirements established by the State Pact.
'We want every euro allocated to combating gender violence to reach solid, evaluable actions aligned with the objectives of the State Pact. That is why we are carrying out preliminary planning and assessment work that will allow us to optimize available resources and strengthen the legal security of the entire procedure,' said the minister.
