Following a season plagued by poor results that culminated in the relegation of Club Baloncesto Gran Canaria, the organization is set for significant changes. A joint press conference is scheduled for Monday, featuring Sitapha Savané, the club's president; Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria; and Aridany Romero, the insular sports counselor.
It is widely expected that Savané will announce his resignation, a move seen as necessary after the disastrous campaign. The meeting aims to convey a message of reassurance and support from the Cabildo, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding private sponsorships after losing elite status.
The contract with Dreamland, a key sponsor, includes a clause allowing the company to terminate its relationship if the team is not in Spain's top basketball league. Despite the Cabildo's defense of Savané's management throughout the season, the sporting results have ultimately dictated the current situation.
The club now faces a 'reset' process that will impact both its management structure and the playing squad. The continuity of the sporting direction remains a major question mark, also dependent on the renegotiation of existing contracts.
