The festivities, presented by mayor Alfredo Gonçalves Ferreira and the Councilor for Culture and Sports, Julián Melián, promise to be inclusive and innovative, notably omitting fireworks and firecrackers. Instead, a grand visual spectacle will be offered, prioritizing respect for people and animals sensitive to noise.
The program, spanning almost a month, includes free events and features municipal archivist Sergio Aguiar and geographer Javier Estévez as opening speakers, who embody the spirit and pride of Guía's residents.
Music will be a highlight with notable performances including Café Quijano on August 15 and Coti on August 14 in the Plaza Grande. Other musical events include the Kanarii Festival, a Youth Night with several DJs, the Raíces Guienses Festival, and the concert by the Municipal Band of Music Ciudad de Guía.
The XXXIII National Folklore Festival Isla de Gran Canaria will also feature prominently, with participation from groups such as La Serrana de Piornal (Cáceres), Agrupación Timbayba (Lanzarote), and the host ACR Estrella y Guía. Additionally, cultural events will include the exhibition 'Paisaje Interior' by painter Geño Aguiar and the presentation of 'Las Cartas de Guía' by writer Santiago Gil and illustrator Lorena Ossorio.
The festivities also include family-oriented events, such as Papagüevos parades, children's shows, a Float Parade dedicated to the history of the Olympic Games, and the Xayo Humor Festival featuring Matías Alonso and Lili Quintana.
Recognition events will also take place, such as the one honoring the Cabildo de Gran Canaria for the 90th anniversary of the song 'Sombra del Nublo'. The program is rounded out with fairs, talks, children's games, and the Encuentro Juvenil Ciudad de Guía.
