The city of La Laguna is gearing up to host a major musical event with the arrival of the first European edition of 'Sesiones Desde La Loma'. This digital format, originating from Puerto Rico and globally recognized for its tropical music content, has chosen the historic Plaza del Cristo as its open-air studio this Saturday, June 20. The initiative is part of the X Edition of the Latino Festival of La Laguna and involves the La Laguna City Council through the Autonomous Body of Musical Activities (OAAM) and the production company Orilla Cultural.
This arrival in the Canary Islands marks a milestone for the project, led by Puerto Rican singer Norberto Vélez and producer Gabriel Ramos, being the first time they cross the Atlantic for an official live recording. The show, titled ‘Pa’ La Laguna’, aims to promote the island's cultural image globally through its digital distribution, establishing Tenerife as a benchmark for Latin music.
For this special occasion, Norberto Vélez will be joined by El Escuadrón de La Loma, the original musical group from Puerto Rico, bringing their signature sound. The artist lineup also features renowned international figures such as the Cuban master Alain Pérez and his orchestra, as well as the voices of Ronald Borjas and Jeremy Bosch, prominent in the salsa scene in the United States and Latin America. Local talent will be represented by Jota Ruiz, Anaé, Carlos García, and Sergio Tejera, who will present a repertoire of romantic salsa and a tribute to Frankie Ruiz and Willie Colón.
The event on June 20 will kick off at 8:00 PM with sets by Canarian DJs José Brito and Julián Hernández, who will set the mood before the live performances. Additionally, various dance academies from La Laguna and Tenerife will actively participate, taking the stage to energize the dance floor and transform the evening into an interactive party.
Tenerife reaffirms its status as an eternal cultural bridge between Europe and America through the universal language of the drum and the clave.
'Sesiones Desde La Loma' has been crucial in revitalizing Caribbean rhythms, respecting salsa's roots while integrating genres like bolero and merengue. This event in Tenerife highlights the cultural connection between Europe and America.
