Espacio La Granja will host on Friday, April 18, and Saturday, April 19, both at 8:00 PM, the plays 'The Munich Students' Manifesto' and a contemporary adaptation of 'The House of Bernarda Alba'. The latter is a collaboration with the Pilar Rey Municipal Theater School, also from La Palma, and includes a parallel children's workshop called 'La pequeña escena'.
The first piece, The Munich Students' Manifesto, recounts the true story of 'The White Rose', a pacifist resistance group formed by university students during World War II. The play, written by Palman author Sergio Hidalgo and directed by Carlos de León, explores the courage of these students in denouncing the atrocities of the Nazi regime through clandestine pamphlets, highlighting the fight against authoritarianism and the relationship between a father and daughter.
On the other hand, the version of Federico García Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba, to be performed on Saturday, April 19, offers a current perspective on the classic. It maintains the dramatic intensity of the story of Bernarda and her daughters, marked by mourning, repression, and hidden desires. The plot focuses on the imposition of strict mourning after Bernarda's husband's death, which unleashes conflicts and passions among the five sisters with the arrival of Pepe el Romano.
This adaptation of The House of Bernarda Alba has been selected for Espacio La Granja's 'La pequeña escena' program, a simultaneous children's workshop for children aged 5 to 10, designed to facilitate family reconciliation. La Sastrería Teatro has established itself as an emerging company in the Canarian theater scene, recognized for its social commitment and for rescuing stories by contemporary Canarian authors, with productions such as Lo que trajo la tormenta and Ultraperiferia.
