The call for aid for students with special educational support needs (NEAE) for the 2026-2027 academic year will open on May 19th and remain open until September 10th.

Applications for aid for students with special educational support needs (NEAE) for the 2026-2027 academic year can be submitted from May 19th to September 10th. Following last year's procedure, the process will be entirely online via the electronic headquarters of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports, bypassing educational centers.
To assist families facing digital access challenges, the option to submit paper applications through registries will be maintained as an exceptional measure.
A significant update for this year's call is the average 10% increase in the asset thresholds required to qualify for these grants. These are intended for students with a disability of 25% or higher, severe behavioral disorders, communication or language disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or high abilities.
The aid covers expenses such as enrollment fees, school supplies, transportation, meals, accommodation, pedagogical or language re-education, and specific programs for high-ability students. A supplementary grant of 400 euros for additional family expenses is also continued.
It is noteworthy that, starting this academic year, students whose family resides in Catalonia must apply for NEAE aid through the specific call issued by the Generalitat de Cataluña. Similarly, the Basque Country has been managing these study grants for several years.
These initiatives are supported by a record budget for scholarships and study aid, which, along with other allocations, will total 2,559 million euros. This marks the ninth consecutive increase, representing an 83% rise since 2018.
