Origin prices of green onions and lemons rise in the Canary Islands

Green onions and lemons have experienced the largest increases in their origin prices in the Canary Islands over the past year, according to ISTAC data.

Green onions stand out as the agricultural product with the highest increase in origin price in the Canary Islands over the last year. In May 2026, the kilo reached a value of 1.65 euros, compared to 0.99 euros in the same month of 2025, representing a 66.7% increase. This data is part of the Agricultural Price Statistics published by the Canary Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
Lemons have also seen a significant rise, going from 0.71 euros per kilo in May 2025 to 0.97 euros currently, a 36.6% increase. Other products whose value has increased include melons (28.4%), leeks (28.3%), and potatoes (19.2%).
In contrast, onions and tomatoes are the products that have seen the most significant price drops in origin. Onions have fallen by 28.6% annually, settling at 0.65 euros per kilo this May compared to 0.91 euros last year. Tomatoes have gone from 1.26 euros to 0.92 euros, a decrease of 27.8%.
Other products that have experienced price decreases include papayas (-22.9%), oranges (-19.7%), and watermelons (-18.6%).
