The event, held on April 15, allowed attendees to immerse themselves in the text as it was written in 1881. This initiative aims to reclaim the authentic version of the work, which, according to the collective, has been distorted by numerous adaptations.
It has been the victim of countless versions and distortions that have made the original truly unknown to the general public.
The reading was part of the complementary activities for the exhibition Pinocchio, Truths and Lies, which will be open to the public until April 30 at the State Public Library in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, located in San Telmo Park.
The day was notable for its inclusive nature, with members of the ONCE Foundation reading chapters in Braille and the support of sign language interpreters. The main objective was to bring Collodi's original message to the public, focusing on the responsibility of choices and the difficulties of childhood in a context of poverty, interpreted as a metaphor for post-unification Italy.
In addition to the reading, the calendar of activities includes a series of conferences. The first, titled The Lie as Existential Truth: From Lie to Truth Through Philosophy, will be given on Thursday at 7:00 PM by philosophy doctor Jabel Ramírez Naranjo. This talk will explore the relationship between lies and the development of philosophy, from classical thinkers to the present day, and will take place in the Auditorium of the State Public Library in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
