Canary Islands tourism overnight stays drop 1.8% in June

The archipelago registered 7.4 million nights, with a decrease in foreign tourists but an increase in residents.

Overnight stays in tourist accommodations in the Canary Islands decreased by 1.8% in June 2026 compared to the previous year, totaling 7.4 million nights.

The Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) has released data showing a 1.8% decrease in overnight stays at hotels and non-hotel establishments in the Canary Islands during June 2026, reaching a total of 7.4 million registered nights.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists, who constitute the largest part of the sector (9 out of 10), decreased by 2.9%. In contrast, overnight stays by residents of Spain saw an increase of 4.5%.
Regarding the number of travelers, tourist establishments in the Canary Islands welcomed 1.14 million tourists in June, representing a 0.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The occupancy rate per room and apartment stood at 74.8%, with the island of Lanzarote recording the highest occupancy index.
Revenue for Canary Islands hotels and apartments grew by 5.3% in June 2026, reaching a turnover of 395 million euros. The average rate per occupied room was 112.37 euros, while revenue per available room averaged 83.9 euros.
The tourist accommodation sector employed 74,510 people in June, spread across 1,276 establishments. For every 100 travelers arriving in the Canary Islands, there were 6.5 jobs related to the sector.
