Early and specialized attention for patients suffering a stroke is vital for reducing mortality and neurological sequelae. To this end, the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), under the Canary Islands Government's Department of Health, organized specialized training in Advanced Life Support (ALS).
This training event brought together doctors and nurses from the SUC working in emergency rooms, as well as in air and ground resources. Healthcare professionals from hospital emergency services and primary care centers in the provinces of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas also participated.
During the session, healthcare professionals updated their knowledge on the new protocols for the Stroke Code and focused on identifying key signs in patients suspected of having this condition.
Healthcare professionals agree that teamwork and the application of standardized procedures throughout the entire care chain, along with initial assessment, stabilization, and urgent transfer to reference hospitals, optimize response times and improve the prognosis for those affected.
