The Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council has secured a 148,730 euro grant from the Government of the Canary Islands for the future Quinta Verde Botanical Park project, set to transform 8,700 square meters.
The Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands has awarded a direct subsidy of 148,730 euros to the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council. These funds will finance the execution project's drafting for the future Quinta Verde Botanical Park, an initiative designed to transform 8,700 square meters into a space blending art, nature, and sustainable tourism.
The project aims to establish the area as an "artistic botanical garden conceived as a new cultural, environmental, and tourist benchmark for the Palgarian capital," aligning with the Canarian Strategy for Insular Tourist Infrastructures and the focus on tourism diversification in La Palma.

"This project represents one of the most significant announcements for the urban, cultural, and tourist future of Santa Cruz de La Palma. Quinta Verde will be a unique space in the Canary Islands, where landscape, art, and the Palgarian identity will coexist to offer a singular experience to both residents and visitors."
The Mayor highlighted that the subsidy allows for "taking the first major step in transforming a degraded environment into a symbol of transformation and pride for the city," marking a "before and after in how we understand our public spaces and our tourist potential."
Héctor Mateo, Director General of Infrastructure, Sustainability, and Tourist Quality, explained that the Ministry is funding two significant projects for La Palma. One is the drafting of the Quinta Verde Botanical Park project, a strategic area near Santa Cruz de La Palma intended to showcase the island's historical heritage, traditional agricultural landscape, and endemic species, connecting sustainability, identity, and tourism development.
Mateo also noted the planned illumination of historical heritage sites in Santa Cruz de La Palma, including six heritage assets, three of which are declared Sites of Cultural Interest, to enhance the urban image and visitor experience.

"Quinta Verde is born with the soul of La Palma. We want to create a living public space where nature dialogues with art and where every corner conveys emotion, identity, and beauty. It will be a place to feel and reconnect with our land."
Juan Guerra, Councilor for Finance and Economy, stated that the grant represents a "great opportunity to continue promoting strategic projects" that generate economic, tourist, and social value. He emphasized that Quinta Verde will revitalize the urban environment and strengthen the capital's image as a quality, differentiated cultural destination.
A unique feature will be the integration of artistic and cultural elements tied to the Palgarian identity, with renowned artist Luis Morera participating in its conceptualization. The project includes the comprehensive recovery of the space with green areas, sculptural elements, and landscape routes.
The subsidy will fully fund the drafting of the execution project, with a maximum completion deadline set for December 31, 2027.
