The presence of teams from the Canary Islands in the Rally Islas Canarias 2026 has experienced a significant increase. Following the 2025 edition, which marked the WRC's debut in the archipelago and featured nine local teams, the number has almost doubled this year, reaching sixteen squads with at least one Canarian component.
Among the participants, names with experience and competitive vehicles stand out, generating expectations for a prominent performance. Some teams are aiming for glory, while others are focused on experiencing such a demanding event with fierce competition.
“"The spearhead of the Canarians will be Enrique Cruz and Yeray Mujica with a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, as well as Armide Martín and Eduardo González with a Skoda Fabia R5 Rally2; the maximum responsibility falls on both."
Other aspiring teams include Julio Martínez and Pedro Viera with a Ford Fiesta Rally2, and Zósimo Hernández and Maite Gutiérrez with a Citroën C3 Rally2, who will aim to successfully complete the race. The driver from Lanzarote, Raúl Hernández, will also join the world event in Gran Canaria with his Ford Fiesta Rally3, accompanied by José Murado.
In addition to the drivers, the competition will feature high-level co-drivers such as Rogelio Peñate and Aridany Bonilla, who will accompany drivers aspiring to reach the podium in their respective categories. The list of Canarian participants is completed by several duos competing with vehicles such as the Renault Clio Rally3, Renault Clio Rally4, Peugeot 208 Rally4, and Renault Clio Rally5, demonstrating the diversity and enthusiasm of the local automotive community.
