This intervention, deemed a priority by the local government, aims to remove an infrastructure that, in addition to being a hazard, prevented the development of new opportunities in the space it occupied. The municipally owned building underwent visual inspection and topographic survey, confirming the necessity of its complete demolition.
“"This intervention is a priority for the governing group, as it is a disused structure that poses a risk to the municipality's residents, and its demolition will provide a space that will offer new opportunities."
The Councilor for Works and Services, Luis Cabrera, explained that the property, historically used as housing for teachers and staff of the CEIP Princesa Arecida, exhibited severe structural problems. These included fissures in load-bearing walls, oxidation of reinforcement in reinforced concrete elements, dampness, detachment of coatings, and obsolete installations.
Furthermore, the building's roof showed a risk of partial collapse in some areas, with a deteriorated, oxidized metal structure and detached welds, as well as wooden elements affected by woodworm. These deficiencies made any rehabilitation attempt unfeasible, justifying the decision to proceed with its complete demolition.
The project includes the dismantling of carpentry and installations, as well as the selective management of waste in accordance with current regulations. Once the demolition is complete, the land will be backfilled and compacted to its natural level. The project, with a budget of 25,000 euros, covers a total volume of 710 cubic meters on a 110 square meter plot.
The work has been awarded to the company Construcciones y Reformas P.S.G. SL, selected after a bidding process that saw three proposals. The City Council has requested the cooperation and understanding of citizens regarding any potential inconveniences arising from these works, assuring that all established safety measures will be met.
