The Antigua City Council has stated an improvement in the municipality's citizen security, especially in Caleta de Fuste, following a Security Board meeting, although no supporting data was provided.

Following the Antigua Local Security Board meeting, the council announced that citizen security in the municipality has improved. Potential measures to reduce incidents in nightlife areas were discussed, including a proposal for a study to relocate entertainment venues away from tourist and residential zones.
According to the municipal statement, representatives from security forces reportedly indicated that official indicators show a reduction in criminal offenses compared to the previous year. The statement reads: "Official and therefore real data" demonstrate a clear improvement in citizen security." However, the Antigua City Council did not provide any statistics or official sources to substantiate this claim.

All violent incidents in Antigua concluded with an arrest

The Security Board included the mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña García; the director of the General Administration of the State in Fuerteventura, María Jesús de la Cruz Montserrat; representatives from the Guardia Civil, and the chief sub-inspector of the Local Police of Antigua, Domingo Fránquiz. Information conveyed indicated that violent incidents recorded during 2025 resulted in the identification and arrest of the alleged perpetrators, with the most serious assaults concentrated in nightlife areas.
The Council also recalled that the Local Police coordinate a network of over 40 traffic surveillance cameras, mostly installed in Caleta de Fuste, whose footage can be made available to law enforcement agencies for investigations or judicial proceedings. Furthermore, contacts are maintained with tourism entrepreneurs, hotels, and commercial areas to promote passive security measures, including the hiring of private security, improved access control, and the installation of video surveillance systems in private spaces.
