The municipality of Antigua has announced the celebration of the festivities in honor of San Francisco Javier in the locality of Las Pocetas, which will be held from August 21st to 27th. Mayor Juan Bartolomé Cabrera and the Councilor for Festivities, Lucila Ruiz, have presented the event program.
As part of the inaugural proclamation, scheduled for Friday, August 21st, the Festival Commission will pay a posthumous tribute to Eugenio Méndez Pérez and his son Eugenio Méndez Aguiar, father and son, recognizing their memory.
Mayor Cabrera has encouraged residents to participate in these celebrations, highlighting the variety of traditional events such as costume contests and ribbon races on horseback. "Everything is prepared for the celebration of these popular festivities, and we have carried out an intensive cleaning campaign so that this rural nucleus looks its best during these days and throughout the summer," he stated.
The Councilor for Festivities, Lucila Ruiz, recalled that the main day for Las Pocetas will be August 27th, a day that will include a religious service and procession in the afternoon, followed by performances by the rondallas from the Antigua Senior Center, Parranda El Campillo, and a toast.
The festive program also includes a pilgrimage, card tournaments, and evening dances throughout the celebration days.
