The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has announced an investment of 3.1 million euros to widen the Miraflor bridge in Teror, a project that will enhance road and pedestrian safety on the GC-21 and is expected to be completed within 20 months.

The Department of Public Works of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, led by Augusto Hidalgo, together with the mayor of Teror, José Agustín Arencibia, presented the project for widening and improving safety for vehicles and pedestrians on the GC-21, specifically in the urban section of the straight and the Miraflor bridge. The island institution will contribute 3.1 million euros for this action, which is expected to be executed over a period of 20 months.
As an alternative route during the construction period, the Cabildo will enable the GC-200 as it passes through San José del Álamo. The current condition of this road requires an additional investment of approximately 3.5 million euros to improve its surface, among other actions. The total cost for the widening of the Miraflor bridge amounts to 6.5 million euros, including both interventions.
This project addresses a long-standing demand from the residents of Teror. The widening of the section passing through the Miraflor neighborhood was left pending when previous improvements were made to the GC-21, partly because the bridge structure dates back to the 19th century. With the new intervention, the roadway will reach a width of 9 meters, allowing two vehicles, light or heavy, to pass simultaneously, which is currently impossible with the existing infrastructure.
