The project 'Metamorfosis Viajera' (Traveling Metamorphosis), conceived by Isaac Reyes, seeks to showcase the history, customs, and local products of Valleseco, one of the most unique municipalities on the 'round island' of Gran Canaria, throughout the European continent. Reyes will depart from Huelva on July 16th, accompanied by his partner Laura Del Pino Padrón, for an adventure lasting at least two months.
The Volkswagen Multivan T4 van, nicknamed 'Mamalona', will be the primary vehicle for this cultural outreach mission. Reyes plans to decorate it with the inscription 'Valleseco de Gran Canaria' to capture attention and generate interest in his homeland. The inspiration for this trip stems from his deep connection with nature and his study of butterflies, an activity that led him to found the Mariposario El Sobradillo Valleseco (El Sobradillo Valleseco Butterfly House).
The journey, which Reyes views as a personal 'metamorphosis', also aims to attract sponsors, preferably companies and entities from Valleseco, to help finance the expedition. After arriving in Huelva, the couple will head to southern Portugal to begin their tour of the country.
A key point of the itinerary will be Asturias, where Reyes plans to visit cider houses (sidrerías and llagares) to present various brands of cider from Valleseco, including Sidras Tuscany, recognized as the Best Cider of the Canary Islands 2026. Following this, they will travel to the Butterfly Garden in Santillana del Mar, Santander, a leading center for butterfly breeding.
In addition to cider, the van will carry other emblematic products from Valleseco such as honey, vinegar, oil, wine, jams, and artisan sweets, with the aim of facilitating impromptu exchanges and highlighting the care put into the northern municipality's gastronomic creations.
Reyes estimates the trip's cost at around 5,000 euros and has already secured preliminary agreements with several companies. He will document his adventure on social media, hoping to inspire others to pursue their own dreams. The initial plan includes touring southern Europe, with the possibility of extending the journey to France and Italy, although his strong desire is to spend the Christmas and New Year holidays in Valleseco.
