The Villa de Agüimes Ybarra, under the command of skipper Alejandro Rodríguez, has reaffirmed its dominance in the Aguas de Teror Latin Sailing Championship. The vessel secured another victory this Sunday in the rescheduled race of the third event, thus maintaining a perfect winning streak after four races.
The competition took place in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, facing challenging conditions with 19-knot winds and a long swell. Despite the demanding racecourse, the event proceeded normally, as reported by the Race Committee to the teams.
In a closely contested race, the Villa de Agüimes Ybarra defeated the Minerva Idamar Atlantic. The leading boat completed the course in 1:04:39, finishing just 48 seconds ahead of 'La Escoba', which crossed the line at 1:05:27. With this result, the Villa de Agüimes Ybarra accumulates 12 points and solidifies its sole leadership in the overall standings.
The day also featured an exciting comeback by Spar Guerra del Río, skippered by Alfred Morales, against Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas. After leading the first half, Portuarios lost ground in the final stretch, allowing Guerra del Río to win by 51 seconds with a time of 1:06:03.
Another key moment was an incident involving the Disa Roque Nublo ULPGC. The boat, which was in the lead, had to retire after an unexpected capsize, allowing the Porteño Siscocan Cervezas Pío Pío to secure victory in that heat, earning three valuable points.
Additionally, victories were recorded by the Villa de Teror Munchitos, skippered by Gustavo del Castillo, over the Unión San Cristóbal Restaurante Los Botes, and by the Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche, with Oliver Bravo de Laguna at the helm, which surpassed the Viajes Insular Arenales Canaluz.
Following this race day, the Villa de Agüimes Ybarra leads the general classification with 12 points. They are followed by Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas with 10 points, and tied with 8 points are Porteño Siscocan Cervezas Pío Pío, Disa Roque Nublo ULPGC, and Spar Guerra del Río.
The competition will continue next Saturday with the sixth race day in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
