This action represents the first step towards creating an infrastructure designed to meet the animal reception needs of the municipalities that make up the Mancomunidad. The overall project for the urbanization and construction of the shelter amounts to 7,230,334.50 euros, structured into two lots to manage its complexity.
The first lot, focused on urbanization, has a budget of 1.99 million euros, while the second lot, dedicated to construction, has 5,230,994.69 euros. The tender for the urbanization works will allow for earthmoving and the installation of necessary facilities for the complex, with execution funded by the Plan de Cooperación con los Ayuntamientos 2024-2027.
The design of the future shelter, to be located on a plot ceded by San Bartolomé de Tirajana with a steep slope, has been adapted to the terrain's characteristics, organized into different levels. The infrastructure will have a total capacity for 295 dogs and 149 cats, exceeding the estimated regional demand. It includes cages for short and long stays, as well as specific areas for immunocompromised animals and quarantine zones.
Additionally, the shelter will feature facilities for other species, including spaces for ferrets and rabbits, three stables for equines, three pens for poultry, and a 73.64 square meter aviary. The estimated timeframe for the completion of the urbanization works is 10 months.
