The occupants of the vessel, mostly men of sub-Saharan origin, did not require transfer to the Nuestra Señora de los Reyes Island Hospital for medical attention, receiving care directly at the dock.
Among the 169 migrants were 15 women and seven minors. According to their testimonies, the journey lasted seven days, departing from Sami (Barra), Gambia.
The people on board originated from various African countries such as Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Conakry, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria.
The new arrivals will be transferred to the Temporary Foreigners Assistance Center (CATE), located in the town of San Andrés, in the municipality of Valverde. There, they will receive assistance from the NGO “Corazón naranja – Ebrima Sonko” and will remain under police custody until their transfer to other resources outside the island.
