Cayuco with 19 migrants arrives south of El Hierro

Maritime Rescue escorted the boat to the port of La Restinga, where the occupants received health assistance.

Maritime Rescue has escorted a cayuco carrying 19 sub-Saharan migrants, including three women, to the port of La Restinga, El Hierro, arriving in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The sighting of the cayuco, navigating about 3 miles south of El Hierro, was reported to the Maritime Rescue center in Tenerife by the Guardia Civil shortly after 02:00 AM. Maritime controllers dispatched the rescue boat Diphda, which located the vessel at 02:30 AM.
Following an approach maneuver, they proceeded to escort the occupants to the port of La Restinga. The 19 individuals, all adults of sub-Saharan origin, disembarked in apparent good health. They were attended at the port by the Immediate Emergency Response Team (ERIE) of the Red Cross, the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), the surveillance service of La Restinga, the Guardia Civil, and the National Police.
According to the migrants' accounts, they undertook a 10-day journey from Joal-Fadiouth (Senegal). On board were individuals from Senegal, Gambia, and Mali. They have been transferred to the Temporary Center for Foreigners (CATE) in the town of San Andrés, municipality of Valverde, where they will be assisted by the NGO "Corazón naranja – Ebrima Sonko" and remain under police custody.
