The capital of Lanzarote is preparing for a busy week of cruise ship calls. On Tuesday, October 20th, the Spirit of Adventure, operated by British cruise line Saga Cruises, will dock with nearly a thousand passengers, predominantly high-spending seniors. This vessel, a sister ship to the Spirit of Discovery, began its maiden voyage to the Canary Islands in January 2021. Saga Cruises considers Arrecife a preferred port for its Canary Islands itineraries between October and April.
On Friday, the Norwegian Star, from Norwegian Cruise Line, will arrive at the Naos pier. With a capacity for 2,348 passengers and 1,031 crew members, this 294-meter-long ship will continue its journey towards Morocco. The weekend will also see the arrival of the Britannia, operated by P&O, one of the largest cruise ships, measuring 330 meters in length and 44 meters in beam. It carries over 4,300 cruise passengers and around 1,400 crew, generating significant spending in local businesses.
The Councilor for Commerce and Tourism of Arrecife, Eli Merino, highlighted that the calls of these five cruise ships during the week will bring approximately 14,000 visitors to the city.
On Sunday, the city will host the Europa 2, from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, arriving from Morocco. This luxury cruise ship, recently awarded a Kreuzfahrt Guide Award for 'Service and Comfort', will continue its voyage to La Gomera at night. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises' history dates back 135 years to Albert Ballin's vision of reinventing sea travel.
Finally, next Monday, Arrecife will welcome the Le Laperouse, a French-flagged expedition cruise ship. This super-luxury boutique vessel, accommodating 137 American passengers and 120 crew members, reinforces Arrecife's position in the boutique cruise segment.
To enhance visitor experiences, the Municipal Government of Arrecife, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, has launched a digital tourist guide accessible via QR code ( www.arrecifeontour.com ). This tool, available in multiple languages, provides information on routes, commercial, cultural, and leisure proposals. The Department of Tourism and Commerce, headed by Councilor Eli Merino, has also updated the city's tourist information signs to include this technology-adapted guide in various languages.
