This initiative, which follows similar projects in neighborhoods such as Las Salinas, Argana, Maneje, Altavista, and La Destila, is part of a municipal plan to upgrade urban infrastructure and improve energy efficiency in the capital of Lanzarote. The project in La Concha, bordering San Bartolomé, marks the first municipal investment of its kind in the residential area this century.
The works are expected to take ten months and involve trenching for underground cable channeling. This measure not only enhances urban aesthetics but also increases safety and reduces the risk of power outages. The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has directly informed residents about the details and anticipated benefits of these works.
The lighting renovation is complemented by other recent improvements in La Concha, such as street resurfacing and the installation of new road signage, all aimed at bolstering road safety. These interventions are part of a broader urban improvement strategy being implemented by the city council during the current term, particularly in neighborhoods that historically lacked basic infrastructure.
The commencement of the works was attended by the island's Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, highlighting inter-institutional collaboration. This coordination is particularly valued in Arrecife, which is home to nearly half of Lanzarote's population. The La Concha initiative is part of a general plan to expand efficient lighting across the city, as already seen in areas like La Destila, near the Antonio Zerolo and La Destila schools, with the installation of LED lighting.
