The incident occurred around 6:12 PM when the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert. It reported that a child had to be rescued from the water in the pool of a hotel in the southern town, showing clear signs of drowning.
Immediately, an emergency response was activated, including two ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) – one basic life support and another advanced medical unit – along with officers from the Guardia Civil and the Local Police.
Upon arrival at the tourist complex, SUC medical personnel assessed and assisted the affected child. After stabilizing the minor, medical professionals confirmed the severity of his physical condition due to the time he remained underwater. He was immediately evacuated by the specialized medical unit to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, where he remains admitted.
This incident adds to other serious aquatic events recorded in swimming pools in tourist areas of the Canary Islands. Medical services managed to stabilize the child's vital signs on-site before his critical hospital transfer.
Local Police and Guardia Civil officers attended the hotel establishment to collaborate with the assistance resources and initiated the corresponding proceedings to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
