Works to mitigate the negative effects of heavy rainfall in Argana, Arrecife, can begin in the coming weeks following the award of necessary improvements by the Insular Water Council. The selected bid, submitted by Transporte y Excavaciones Tiagua, amounts to over 909,800 euros.
This initiative responds to the need to alleviate the severe consequences experienced in the area whenever it rains with considerable intensity, a problem that has become particularly evident since the late last century. The process was expedited after the flood on April 12, 2025. Part of the budget is provided by the Government of the Canary Islands.
The planned works include the installation, repair, and improvement of drains, the construction of drainage ditches and curbs, and other specific actions aimed at correctly channeling runoff, reducing flood risk, and enhancing safety for homes, pedestrians, and vehicular traffic.
The future works will particularly affect streets such as Tanganillo, Iguazú, Trillo, Tenderete, Hermanos Álvarez Quintero, Antonio Machado, Taro, Saltona, Rancho de Pascua, Alejo Carpentier, Jorge Luis Borges, and Buero Vallejo, as well as Avenida de Los Geranios. The project, by the Insular Water Council itself, has the authorization of the Arrecife City Council.
The tasks have a maximum execution period of eight months, meaning completion is expected by the summer of 2027 at the earliest, provided work begins in the autumn.
