In the coming days, contracts will be formalized to allow the start of works for the expansion of the Tías cemetery and the construction of the diving center in Puerto del Carmen. Both projects, awarded to Hormiconsa Canarias, are scheduled to begin in May.
The cemetery expansion represents the larger investment, with a final cost of nearly 1.49 million euros, including taxes. As previously reported by Canarias7, the works will last for eleven months. This project will utilize a recently expropriated plot by the City Council to create 969 new spaces for human remains, including graves, niches, columbariums, and ossuaries.
Meanwhile, the construction of the diving center, which will take nine months, will involve an outlay of 1.33 million euros. The initiative includes the pedestrianization of Varadero Avenue and the adaptation of the plot for the establishment of the Ecological Underwater Activities Park, a name that highlights the nature of this frontline coastal project.
For both proposals, only the successful bidder submitted an offer in due time and form, a firm with extensive experience in executing public works on Lanzarote soil.
