The Civil Guard has dismantled a network of companies organizing illegal motorcycle tours through high-value ecological natural spaces on the island of Fuerteventura.

Officers from SEPRONA, part of the Las Palmas Command, conducted an operation to halt unauthorized motor tourism activities. Investigations confirmed that these businesses promoted excursions through areas designated as ZEPA (Special Protection Areas for Birds) and ZEC (Special Areas of Conservation), which hold the highest level of environmental protection in the archipelago.
Inspections revealed that the tours took place even during bird breeding seasons, ignoring temporary restrictions and preventive closures issued by the island administration to ensure the survival of protected species.
The commercial activity operated without the active tourism licenses required by regional legislation. Those responsible now face disciplinary proceedings with potential fines of up to 300,000 euros, based on the Canary Islands Land and Protected Natural Spaces Law and the Canary Islands Tourism Management Law.
