The Council of Ministers has approved the airport investment plan for the 2027-2031 period, allocating 153 million euros specifically to Fuerteventura Airport. This funding, part of a total of 1,807 million for the Canary Islands, aims to transform the island's infrastructure.
Key developments include the expansion of the Terminal Area to accommodate a larger passenger volume, the implementation of an Automated Baggage Handling and Inspection System to streamline checks, and the addition of new jet bridges and aircraft service equipment.
A significant feature will be the construction of a new control tower, crucial for managing air traffic at an airport with increasing demand. The aircraft parking apron will also be expanded, and a new ILS/DME system will be installed to enhance landing safety and precision, particularly in adverse weather conditions.
Within the overall distribution for the Canary Islands, Tenerife South will receive 553 million, Gran Canaria 336.3 million, and Lanzarote 327.4 million. Tenerife North is allocated 313 million, while La Palma will get 89 million, La Gomera 19 million, and El Hierro 14.8 million, primarily for operational safety and sustainability improvements.
