Canadian director Kiym Nguyen, an Oscar nominee in 2013, has chosen Fuerteventura for the filming of his new cinematic production. The movie, titled Le Sablier, is being shot almost entirely on the island over 27 days, utilizing locations in the municipalities of La Oliva and Puerto del Rosario.
The production of this international feature film is handled by the Canadian company Item 7, with French co-production from Noodles Production. Additionally, Fasten Films has provided production services in Fuerteventura, facilitating the logistics and development of the project on the island.
Based on true events, Le Sablier recounts the dramatic experience of Édith Blais, a Canadian citizen who was held captive for 450 days by jihadist forces in the Sahara desert, alongside her Italian boyfriend, Luca Tacchetto. The film aims to faithfully recreate the events of this captivity.
“"The film Le Sablier generates about 50 hires in Fuerteventura, including permanent and temporary workers."
The filming of Le Sablier not only brings visibility to Fuerteventura as a film destination but also has a significant economic impact. As confirmed by Nereida Calero, head of the Film Commission, the project has generated approximately 50 hires, including both permanent and temporary staff, for local workers.
