The Insular Youth Center in Fuerteventura hosts from this Tuesday, September 1st, the third edition of CIJ HOP, an urban culture gathering that will extend until Saturday, September 5th.

The initiative, organized by the Youth Department of the Fuerteventura Island Council, combines training, creation, competition, and meeting spaces. The offerings cover various disciplines such as written battles, beat making, freestyle dance, popping, waacking, break, and afro.
The president of the Fuerteventura Island Council, Lola García, highlighted the importance of these initiatives to “continue building spaces where youth are not just spectators, but protagonists.” She noted that behind these disciplines lie “talent, creativity, and also a community that shares concerns.”
For his part, the Minister of Education and Youth, Adargoma Hernández, emphasized that CIJ HOP was created “to open the Insular Youth Center to other forms of expression that are part of young people's daily lives.”
The program kicks off this Tuesday, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a written battles workshop. On Wednesday the 2nd, at the same time, workshops on beat making and freestyle dance will be held. On Friday the 4th, at 7:00 PM, the documentary Scratch. Inicio y evolución del Hip Hop will be screened, followed by a discussion about the hip hop scene in Fuerteventura.
Saturday, September 5th, will concentrate a large part of the program. The morning will include workshops on popping, waacking, break, and afro (10:00 AM - 1:30 PM). After lunch, the break competition will take place (3:30 PM - 5:00 PM).
The main event will begin at 6:00 PM and run until 9:00 PM, featuring a 'Batalla de Gallos' (rap battle), a Song Contest, and an open mic session to close the edition. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, and food will be provided for participants.
