The Government Council of the Canary Islands has greenlit a budget allocation of 500,000 euros for an innovation project being developed at the Fuerteventura Technology Park. The initiative aims to create solutions based on unmanned aircraft (drones) for territorial protection, drowning prevention, and illegal dumping control.
Manuel Miranda, Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion, and Water, highlighted the "incessant work of research and innovation" taking place at the Park, providing solutions for administrative management in areas such as the environment, security, and land use planning.
This project, driven by the Ministries of Territorial Policy and Finance, is part of the Canarias Geo Innovation Program 2030. It analyzes the use of drones for purposes including the detection of unauthorized constructions, early warning of illegal dumping, compilation of asbestos censuses, protection of beachgoers from drowning, and coastal surveillance.
The Fuerteventura Technology Park, wholly owned by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, is a public center where innovation projects strategic to the Autonomous Community are developed, specializing in the application of unmanned aircraft to land use planning, security, and coastal protection.
