The Popular Party has expressed deep concern over the imminent elimination of the shipping route connecting Puerto del Rosario with Cadiz, scheduled for June 30th. According to the political party, this decision by the Spanish Government represents a severe lack of planning and management, as it removes the Public Service Obligation (OSP) from this essential line.
A representative from the PP warned of the detrimental consequences for citizens. The disappearance of this direct link means that, from July onwards, all maritime transport to the Peninsula will have to go through the ports of Lanzarote or Gran Canaria, increasing the island's isolation.
The political party conveyed the existing social discontent, describing the situation as "even greater isolation" caused by the "neglect" of the Spanish Government and the Socialist Party. It is emphasized that the loss of this route represents a "hard blow" to Fuerteventura's maritime connectivity, with direct repercussions on the cost of living, grocery shopping, product supply, and logistical expenses.
Furthermore, the potential harm to the business sector and families during the summer season was highlighted. The PP lamented the abrupt cancellation of the route, which has generated indignation among hundreds of passengers with confirmed summer bookings.
Faced with this scenario of uncertainty, the PP has demanded "immediate action and responsibility" from the State. The cessation of the route has met with unanimous rejection, with all political parties on the Cabildo opposing the measure.
