The island hosts until next June 26 experts from four countries and five archipelagos of Macaronesia to exchange knowledge and experiences in the observation, management, and conservation of coastal and marine ecosystems. The event is led by the Ecoaqua University Institute of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC).
The inaugural session was attended by Marlene Figueroa, Minister of Ecological Transition and Environmental Sustainability of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, who welcomed the attendees. Also participating were Yaiza Fernández-Palacios, researcher at the Ecoaqua University Institute and project coordinator; João Gama Monteiro, associate researcher at the University of Madeira; and Antonio Gallardo, director of the Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve.
Figueroa highlighted Fuerteventura's satisfaction in hosting this international meeting, emphasizing the importance of bringing together representatives from the Macaronesia region. The event focuses on improving the technical capabilities of professionals in the sector.
The program includes three specialized workshops addressing the use of drones and other environmental observation technologies, geographic information management applied to the marine environment, and data analysis for monitoring coastal ecosystems.

The Ecomaris project promotes knowledge exchange and the development of innovative tools. The celebration of this second meeting in Fuerteventura reinforces its position as a key space for debate, training, and cooperation in sustainability and environmental protection, fostering the creation of working networks among institutions and research centers.
