The President of the Island Council, Lola García, highlighted the importance of the self-employed as "one of the main pillars of Fuerteventura's economy", emphasizing their contribution to job creation and the island's economic and social development.
Consequently, the insular Corporation backs the proposal document submitted by the Association of Self-Employed of Fuerteventura. This document points out various issues affecting the collective, such as the increase in labor and operating costs, the high tax burden, and difficulties in hiring personnel.
Through this motion, the Fuerteventura Island Council commits to continuing to promote support policies for self-employment and small businesses. This will be achieved through training programs, advice, innovation, digitalization, economic promotion, administrative simplification, and support for entrepreneurship, maintaining constant collaboration with the Association of Self-Employed of Fuerteventura and other sector organizations.
Furthermore, all competent public administrations are urged to coordinate their actions to respond to the demands of the Association of Self-Employed of Fuerteventura. The goal is to promote reforms and measures that reduce the burdens on the collective, favor the continuity of small businesses, promote job creation and maintenance, and enhance business competitiveness.
This agreement has been forwarded to the Government of Spain, the Government of the Canary Islands, the Parliament of the Canary Islands, the Government Delegation in the Canary Islands, the Canary Federation of Islands (FECAI), the Canary Federation of Municipalities (FECAM), the town councils of Fuerteventura, and the main representative organizations of self-employment and business in the Canary Islands.
