The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has launched 'The Soul of the Island' campaign, a comprehensive initiative for the protection and dissemination of the island's cultural heritage, including guided tours and participatory processes.
The 'The Soul of the Island' campaign is a project promoted by the Cultural Heritage Department of the Cabildo, seeking to provide Fuerteventura's heritage with a solid and recognizable image. Its main objectives include strengthening the sense of belonging and commitment to cultural heritage through awareness, education, and active citizen participation.
The initiative encompasses various activities, such as the 'Landscapes with History' program, which offers guided tours through thirteen significant enclaves on the island. Open days are also planned for museums, the Insular General Archive in Puerto del Rosario, and field work at archaeological sites, aiming to bring heritage closer to all audiences.
Additionally, the campaign includes participatory processes in locations such as the Casa del Inglés in La Oliva and La Florida in Tuineje. For educational and digital outreach, Taro has been created, a guide character who facilitates learning about Fuerteventura's heritage elements in an engaging and accessible way for all ages. Another notable activity is 'Learning from Elders'.
The campaign has also developed a new image with a logo inspired by the aboriginal ceramic friezes of Fuerteventura. An official website has been created, offering access to digitized books, documents from the Historical Archive, legislation, and official guides, with the purpose of unifying and guaranteeing the veracity of information about the island's cultural heritage.
