The island's president emphasized the need for a special effort to disseminate the origins, protect, and make known Fuerteventura's legacy. This project not only aims to provide the Majorero heritage with a solid, coherent, and recognizable image but also to reinforce the sense of belonging and commitment to local identity.
“"Right now, we are at a point where we must make a special effort to show where we come from, protect, know, and make known our legacy as an island."
Under the slogan 'The Soul of Fuerteventura', the campaign covers both tangible and intangible heritage, including customs, collective memory, and the way of life that has forged the island's common identity. The Minister of Culture noted that the project seeks to build community around heritage, fostering identity and belonging among residents.
Among the concrete actions to bring heritage closer to citizens are the creation of a dedicated website, dissemination campaigns on social media, cycles and meetings linking heritage with popular festivals, and the 'Landscapes with History' program featuring guided tours. Open days will also be held in museums, the Insular General Archive, and archaeological sites.
Furthermore, the initiative includes participatory processes in projects such as the Casa del Inglés or La Florida, and outreach activities aimed at schoolchildren, with the goal of strengthening commitment to the conservation and dissemination of Fuerteventura's cultural heritage.
