The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has allocated over 9 million euros for the renovation of the facade of the Hospital Universitario Insular de Gran Canaria, with works scheduled to begin this Tuesday, April 14.

The work will focus on restoring the exteriors of the hospital complex's south and west buildings. This project will be carried out in stages to minimize any impact on the hospital's daily operations, ensuring the continuity of healthcare services.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, the initial phase will cover the south and west facades. To delineate the construction area, fencing will be installed, occupying the sidewalk adjacent to the west building and part of the adjoining road. Additionally, a section of the former Colegio Universitario de Las Palmas (CULP) plot will be used for material storage, debris removal, and construction site offices.
The regional government has indicated that the facade of the Insular Hospital has suffered deterioration due to adverse weather conditions, given its proximity to the coast and the GC-1 Highway. The renovation aims to rehabilitate the entire facade using a cladding system that combines design, durability, and a significant improvement in thermal comfort and acoustic conditions.
This intervention also includes expanding environmental protection measures, both in the materials and products used and in the management of the works. The new facade is expected to considerably optimize the energy performance of its thermal envelope, while also giving the building a modern appearance. The contract for the work was awarded through an open tender procedure with ordinary processing, subject to harmonized regulation.
