The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) has published the official request for a concession to occupy public maritime-terrestrial domain assets, a crucial step for the renovation of Arrecife's Thematic Park. This initiative aims to transform the area into a large green, sports, and leisure hub, located next to the plot designated for the future Island Auditorium.
Mayor Yonathan de León has expressed his satisfaction with the recovery of this land, whose concession was lost in 2018 during the administration of Eva de Anta (PSOE). The new processing has been a priority for this term, allowing the City Council to advance its renovation plans.
Once the concession is granted, the Arrecife City Council will be able to tender the works for the comprehensive renovation of the park. The technical project, already submitted to Costas for authorization, involves an investment of approximately 10 million euros. This action complements the upcoming rehabilitation of José Ramírez Cerdá Park, aiming to restore two significant public spaces by the sea.
The Councilor for Tourism, Commerce, and Sports, Eli Merino, has detailed the new facilities the Thematic Park will include. Among them are a calisthenics area spanning 935 square meters, the largest in Arrecife, a 1,126 square meter space for open-air cinema, and a children's sports area of 1,042 square meters with multi-sport courts. A new skatepark of 2,200 square meters with modern elements and a U walride will also be created.
As a distinctive feature, the park will boast a walkable ground fountain covering 955 square meters, designed for enjoyment and cooling off on hot days. Additionally, a picnic area of 930 square meters equipped with furniture and shaded zones will be available, along with a Pump Track area running through the park, ideal for cyclists, pedestrians, and skaters.
