The Employment Department of the Cabildo has allocated 100,000 euros to this training, which aims to facilitate the labor insertion of participants. The program, executed by the Nos Movemos Foundation, was presented at the headquarters of Autoescuela Reyes.
The project, which began in March, will train 20 people to obtain the D+CAP license, required for passenger transport. As a new feature, another 20 individuals will receive training for goods transport, with the C+CAP license.
In addition to technical training, all 40 participants will also acquire essential digital, communication, and linguistic skills for their future job roles. The program includes individualized psychosocial support and guidance throughout the training process and the initial stages of job placement.
The employability rate for these professionals, once training and practical periods are completed, stands at around 90%.
The main goal of the program is for 90% of participants to secure employment and maintain it for a minimum of six months. The previous edition demonstrated the initiative's effectiveness, with 21 out of 23 people who obtained their licenses finding work.
This high success rate is due to the constant demand for drivers in Gran Canaria's transport sector. Initiatives like 'Employment on Wheels' help meet these labor needs while offering new career opportunities to the island's citizens, especially those at risk of social exclusion. Obtaining these licenses privately would cost approximately 3,000 euros.
