Four men will be tried in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for their alleged involvement in bringing over 1.5 tons of hashish to the island, originating from Morocco.

The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas will try four men accused of introducing a significant quantity of hashish into Gran Canaria. The prosecution is seeking a six-year prison sentence and fines totaling 14 million euros for each of them.
According to the prosecution's indictment, the defendants allegedly organized the maritime transport of cannabis resin from Morocco with the aim of distributing it on the island. The drug, carried by an inflatable boat, reportedly reached El Juncal beach on the island's northwest coast in the early hours of March 29, 2023.
After landing, the accused allegedly transferred the merchandise to a house on the Fagajesto road in Gáldar to conceal it before distribution. The investigation, conducted by the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Guardia Civil, led to the apprehension of two of the individuals as they were leaving the property.
During a search of the property on April 1, 2023, 75 sacks containing 1,501 kilos of cannabis resin, divided into 30,440 tablets, along with a weighing scale, were seized. The prosecution estimates the illicit market value of the seized drugs to be over 3.1 million euros.
The Public Ministry considers the acts to constitute a crime against public health, with aggravating factors of notorious importance and extreme gravity due to the use of a vessel. Therefore, in addition to the prison sentence, it is requesting fines of six and eight million euros for each of the defendants.
