“"This is the second time in a very short period that this championship comes to Gran Canaria and, in general, to the Canary Islands. The high participation achieved stands out, and above all, the impact that the circuit's presence will have on the island. We are facing one of the sports with the highest growth both nationally and internationally, not only due to its current expansion but also because of the enormous projection it presents in the short term. There seems to be no other discipline with a similar growth capacity. For the Canary Islands Federation, this is excellent news."

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is set to become the national epicenter of pickleball this weekend, hosting the Gran Canaria Open 2026. This event brings together 192 athletes, including 94 professionals, marking the official start of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) season.
Organized by CANARIAS7, the competition will feature the sport's top specialists on the island. Preliminary and final matches for various categories will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Club Conde Jackson, with sessions from 9:00 to 13:00 and starting from 14:00.
The main court, located in Alcalde Fernando Ortiz Wiot square, right on the Las Canteras promenade, will host the semifinals on Saturday and the grand finals for the professional absolute category (singles, doubles, and mixed) on Sunday, from 10:00 to approximately 14:45. The court's setup began the day prior to the event.
José Juan Sepúlveda, president of the Canary Islands Tennis Federation, emphasized the event's significance for Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands in an interview last Tuesday. He highlighted the high participation and the circuit's impact, noting pickleball as a sport with significant national and international growth and future potential.
