The Gran Canaria Bike Team has emerged as the undisputed star of the 2026 Canary Islands Cup following a weekend of resounding success. The Gran Canaria squad not only clinched two triplets in the male cadet category but also achieved victories in the female junior and U23 categories, reaffirming its status as a benchmark for grassroots cycling in the archipelago.
The most remarkable achievement of the competition was the double feat by Néstor Herrera, Pablo Álvarez, and Ayose Robaina, who secured the top three positions in both the road race held in Jover and the demanding individual time trial in Los Silos. This unusual dominance highlights the individual caliber of its riders and the depth of a squad capable of competing across multiple categories.
On Saturday's Canary Islands Road Championship in Jover, the team dominated the male cadet podium with Herrera in first place, followed by Álvarez and Robaina. The collective performance was further bolstered by the efforts of Álvaro Gómez, Asier Álvarez, Eloy Marza, Óscar Darias, and José Mena, who kept the team among the race's standout performers.
The victory in the female junior category went to Sara Quintero, solidifying her position as one of the most consistent riders in Canarian youth cycling. In the male junior category, Javier Rodríguez finished second and David Bolaños fourth, with notable contributions from Héctor Alfaya and Tanausú Hernández.
The U23 category also saw the team's dominance, with a win by Daniel Lado and a second-place finish for Alberto González. Alberto Pérez, Agustín Martín, and Matías Peñate rounded out a collective performance that underscores the club's strength.
On Sunday, at the individual time trial in Los Silos, the Gran Canaria Bike Team repeated its success. The trio of Herrera, Álvarez, and Robaina secured another triplet in the male cadet category, marking the second triplet of the weekend and cementing the team's role as a key player in the Canary Islands Cup.
In the female cadet category, Valeria Leal achieved a commendable third place. Meanwhile, Sara Quintero completed a perfect weekend with another victory in the female junior category, reinforcing her role in nurturing female talent.
The male junior team also reached the podium, with David Bolaños taking second place and Javier Rodríguez third, supported by a solid presence from Héctor Alfaya, Tanausú Hernández, Héctor Santana, Héctor Morales, and Jorge Álvarez.
