The acting president of the Las Palmas Football Federation has emphasized the significance of the Queen's Cup final, which will see FC Barcelona face Atlético de Madrid in Gran Canaria. This unprecedented match on the island will feature world and European champion players, highlighting the unparalleled progress of women's football over the past fifteen years.
The main challenge for the organizers is to fill the Estadio de Gran Canaria and set a new attendance record for a women's football match in Spain, surpassing the 25,000 spectator mark. Ticket sales are progressing well, with nearly 14,000 tickets already sold, driven by an affordable pricing policy.
“"I have pushed the Spanish Federation quite a bit, for us it is more important to have these affordable prices so that everyone can come."
The final will be accompanied by a week of diverse activities, including sports, social, cultural, and institutional events. These include a high-level sports law conference, fan zones in the capital, a major musical performance, and the display of the trophy at the Casa Palacio del Cabildo.
The rescheduling of the match to avoid clashing with the UD Las Palmas game, managed with the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and LaLiga, demonstrates the deep-rooted passion for football in Canarian society. This event also serves as an important step for Gran Canaria's bid to host the 2030 World Cup and the aspiration to host the women's Champions League final in 2031, once the stadium is renovated.
