The island of Gran Canaria is gearing up for a grand celebration of Canary Islands Day with the cultural superproduction Attindamana, a show that will bring together over 500 artists in Santa Ana Square in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on May 29.

The Councilor for Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, recently visited the studios of the Araguaney group in Telde, where rehearsals are underway for the various collectives participating in the La Isla de Mi Vida Festival. This festival will culminate with the aforementioned superproduction, which will be the central event of the commemoration.
During her visit, the councilor witnessed firsthand the work of the Araguaney group and the Mujeres ᗡ choir, who will be an integral part of the show. The artistic preparation and coordination of the rehearsals highlight the magnitude of this project, which aims to pay tribute to the island's identity and its 21 municipalities, combining traditional elements with a contemporary creative vision.
The Araguaney group, with over three decades of experience in Canarian popular music, will contribute a large-format choral base for Attindamana, bringing its style that blends traditional roots with Atlantic and contemporary influences. For its part, the Mujeres ᗡ choir, founded in 2025 and composed of 19 members, will join by adapting its repertoire to integrate into the collective dimension of the event.
The project, directed by Mario Vega, Belén Álvarez (Lajalada), Víctor Batista, Ner Suárez, Manuel Abrante, Ruth Sánchez, and Javier Cerpa, aims to generate a new repertoire for Canarian popular music, with 21 pieces dedicated to each of the island's municipalities. The rehearsal phase emphasizes the importance of collaborative work and artistic preparation, crucial elements for achieving a result that reflects local talent.
The La Isla de Mi Vida Festival will take place between May 22 and 29, including activities in educational centers, music schools, and public spaces, culminating with the grand spectacle in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Attindamana, meaning “The sound of a people, the heartbeat of an island,” is presented as a cultural proposal that intertwines tradition, community participation, and modern creativity.
