The 13th edition of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will take place in Agüimes from May 8th to 10th, aiming to break attendance records and establish itself as a cornerstone for local products and the island's economy.

The president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria has emphasized the fair's significance as an economic driver and a symbol of identity for the island. This event, which promotes local produce, comes with many new features and the goal of surpassing previous attendance figures.

"When we arrived, we set out to ensure that local products, the primary sector, and food sovereignty, for all they represent (from eating fresher food to supporting endogenous jobs, fighting fires, keeping people in the territory, or generating diversified economic activity), we clearly understood that we had to undertake cross-cutting work involving different areas to all move in the same direction."

The fair is not only an effective showcase for the island's products but has also become a centralizing and disseminating element, raising awareness and sensitivity about the importance of the primary sector. The crucial role of tourism as a driving force for the consumption of these products is highlighted, citing the International Cheese Forum as an example of intersectoral collaboration.
This edition will see the participation of 17 municipalities from Gran Canaria, showing an increasingly refined presence, surrounded by local producers. The incorporation of young people, who bring innovation to the sector, is noted with satisfaction, boosting the traditional sector with new perspectives.
Among the novelties are a pairing between renowned chefs and specialized communicators, in addition to the change of location to the Agüimes fairgrounds. The management is optimistic about this new venue, recalling the success of other fairs held there, such as the port logistics fair or Movelec, which exceeded visitor and sales expectations.

"This edition of the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair will have the opportunity to bring the fair closer to the tourism sector and also to other areas of Gran Canaria; I hope and trust that the attendance record will be broken at this location."

Children will also play a significant role in the fair, with numerous activities aimed at raising awareness about the circular economy and recycling. It is emphasized that the most effective campaigns in this area are those carried out in schools, as children are the most receptive and motivate their parents to adopt sustainable practices.
Finally, a call is made to the population to maintain this essential economic activity for the island, especially in times of global uncertainty, recalling the importance of valuing and supporting what is closest.
