On Thursday, June 11th, mobility in Gran Canaria will require thorough planning due to the visit of Pope Leo XIV. The main event, a large mass at the Gran Canaria Stadium in Siete Palmas, will mobilize thousands of people and activate an extensive traffic, public transport, and parking operation.
The main affected routes will be the GC-1 and GC-3. The GC-1 will experience dynamic closures southbound between 10:30 AM and 11:45 AM, and northbound between 12:15 PM and 1:15 PM, impacting those arriving from the south and southeast of the island towards the capital. It is advisable to avoid this road during these times or plan entry into Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM or between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
The GC-3 will be key for access to and from the Siete Palmas area. Dynamic closures are planned northbound between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM, and southbound between 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM. Additionally, several streets around the Gran Canaria Stadium and the Gran Canaria Arena will be closed from the previous night.
As an alternative, public transport will be crucial. Global will reinforce several lines and provide shuttle services. Guaguas Municipales will activate special services to Siete Palmas from various points in the capital. Approximately 80 discretionary buses organized by parishes will also be available to transport the faithful.
Attendees are advised to check schedules, choose peripheral parking, and prioritize public transport. It is recommended to avoid driving on the GC-1 between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM, and on the GC-3 towards the stadium between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.
